The Ray Triangles
by Niklas Nihlen
In this article I will share some impressions
concerning the integration of the new astrology with the teaching
on the seven rays—a topic that has not been explored in any
real depth by astrologers.
1) First
of all, let us remember that this type of astrology is founded upon
an understanding of the greater whole in which live and move and
have our being. It holds a more universal outlook and monadic perspective,
and only in time, the particular and individual perspective will
stand revealed. Then purpose may truly emerge on the physical plane
with great clarity and definition.
2) This
astrology has its foundation in the greater cosmic life, and the
mysteries found in the relation between the heart-within-the-head
centre and the seven head centres, and that which these control.
We are therefore led to contemplate the relation of the zodiac wheel
to the seven Rishis of the Great Bear, and also the seven planetary
Logoi Who are Their Representatives and to whom they stand in the
relation of Prototype.(1) Our understanding of
Septenary Control and the Law of the Supplementary Seven (2)
will help us in our endevour to penetrate these mysteries.
3) Remember
that the "zodiacal wheel is itself essentially a cosmic centre;
it is a twelve-petalled lotus within the thousand-petalled lotus
of an unknown cosmic Entity, the One referred to as the One About
Whom Naught May Be Said." (3) Remember also
that the "seven head centres correspond in the microcosm to
the seven Rishis of the Great Bear, the prototypes of the seven
Heavenly Men." (4)
4) We therefore
find the three aspects of this cosmic Entity reflected in the three
Major Constellations; expressing three aspects of the Will and thus
affecting the three cosmic worlds: (5)
1. The will which conditions and intiates.........the
synthetic life of the cosmic physical plane.
2. The will which brings fulfillment.................incentive
coming from the cosmic astral plane.
3. The will which conquers death...................outpouring
from the cosmic mental plane.
5) We therefore
understand why this type of astrology has not been worked out yet,
as it is primarily concerning the Will; the first or spirit aspect.
Disciples and intiates are therefore somewhat coming in contact
with this energy--it is when the ajna centre and the thousand-petalled
lotus are correctly related to each other, that the man can take
the third intiation and the potency of the Monad begins to make
its presense felt. (6)
6) The
seven stars of the Great Bear are the originating sources of the
seven rays of our solar system:
Ray 1........Alkaid
Ray 2........Alcor/Mizar
Ray 3........Alioth
Ray 4........Megrez
Ray 5........Dubhe
Ray 6........Merak
Ray 7........Phekda
7) Each
controlling star and ray primarily expresses itself through a triangle
of constellations as follows:
Ray 1 ... Aries ..... Leo ............... Capricorn
Ray 2 ... Gemini ... Virgo ............. Pisces
Ray 3 ... Cancer ... Libra ............ Capricorn*
Ray 4 ... Taurus ... Scorpio .......... Sagittarius
Ray 5 ... Leo ...... Sagittarius ...... Aquarius**
Ray 6 ... Virgo ..... Sagittarius ..... Pisces
Ray 7 ... Aries ...... Cancer ........ Capricorn
* Ray 3 is working through Capricorn for disciples
and initiates.
** Ray 5 will be working through Aquarius as we
enter more fully into the new age.
8) Let
it be clearly stated that these Triangles under investigation, relate
entirely to "subjective energies as they condition the consciousness
and not the conditioning brought about by the same energies upon
the outer forms upon the physical plane." (7)
The effect of these energies will be in the realm of ideas and in
the world of consciousness, and will embrace the sentient thought
life of man. "It will not, therefore, deal with the producing
of events except in so far that all ideas work out into expression
upon the plane of manifestation." (8)
9) The
above is of essence. The energy, reaching us via these ray alignments
will prove to be of importance, because they concern our own Planetary
process on Earth. It is we (humanity and NGWS) who hold the responsibility
of transforming our Earth into a sacred planet through the agency
of thought, reacting to zodiacal energies. (9) Humanity as a whole,
with the aid of the NGWS, are only today beginning to come in contact
with the Shamballa energy in a more direct and less mediated way.
10) We
could do well to ponder how these ray alignments may actually affect
us in a more practical manner and here are some brief thoughts:
The first ray through Aries increases the impress of spirit upon
matter, driving the leaders of the world towards a recognition of
the Will as embodied in the Mind of God. The second ray through
Gemini will bring light and clarity into the minds of men, stimulating
unitive thinking and communication at the speed of light. The second
ray through Virgo stimulates the Christ-consciousness deep within
and brings it irresistibly to the fore. The third ray and seventh
ray, through Cancer and Capricorn, stimulate the building process,
anchoring the spark of humanity on Earth, thus enabling the externalization
of the Hierarchy--the union of the 4th kingdom and the 5th kingdom
on Earth. The fourth ray through Taurus and Scorpio increases the
struggle of humanity, lifting the material desires towards more
spiritual values, eventually bringing about a perfectly balanced
state with respect to our joint resources. The fifth ray through
Leo and Aquarius increases self-knowledge and our awareness of individuality
and will eventually give us the ability to discern those groups
to which we truly belong. The sixth ray through Sagittarius fosters
integration and one-pointed endeavor towards a desired goal or ideal--a
global vision or new world religion.
11) From
the "three cosmic planes (embracing the sacred personality
of the Logoi, solar and planetary) come the united energies of the
three constellations which control and energise our solar system:
The Great Bear, the Pleiades and Sirius; these work through the
medium of the seven rays and these in turn express themselves through
the twelve constellations which form the great zodiacal wheel. The
Lords or ruling Powers of these twelve sources of light and life
"step down" the potency of these three major energies
so that our solar Logos can absorb them; they "tune out"
those aspects of these three Potencies which are not suited to our
systemic life at this point in the evolutionary process, just as
the Hierarchy upon our little planet tunes out or steps down the
energies from Shamballa." (10)
12) A planet
finds affinity with the signs and constellations in stated cycles,
in order for the greater entity to attain control of the centres
in his body of manifestation. The planetary rulerships are an example
of this, as are the ray triangles forming in the zodiac:
Ray 1: Aries ..... Leo .......
Capricorn ... Mars, Mercury, Sun, Saturn
Ray 2: Gemini ... Virgo .....
Pisces... .Mercury, Venus, Moon, Jupiter, Pluto
Ray 3: Cancer .. Libra .....
Capricorn* ... Moon, Neptune, Venus, Uranus, Saturn
Ray 4: Taurus ... Scorpio ..
Sagittarius... Venus, Vulcan, Mars, Jupiter, Earth
Ray 5: Leo ..... Sagittarius
. Aquarius**... Sun, Jupiter, Earth, Uranus
Ray 6: Virgo ... Sagittarius
. Pisces ...... Mercury, Moon, Jupiter, Earth, Pluto
Ray 7: Aries ... Cancer ..... Capricorn
...Mars, Mercury, Moon, Neptune, Saturn
Note: the bolded constellations
above are the strongest in the ray triangle at this time.
* Ray 3 is working through Capricorn for disciples
and initiates.
** Ray 5 will be working through Aquarius as
we enter more fully into the new age.
13) A planet
is the abode or expression of a Heavenly Man, and as such will be
informed by certain rays. It can be said that the planet is emitting
these rays according to its development. If it is a sacred planet,
it will primarily emit its soul ray, and if it is a non-sacred planet
(like our Earth), it will primarily emit the personality ray (the
third ray in case of our Earth). So, to define our terms; a planet
may emit a ray which is existent within its own constitution, yet
it may also transmit the ray of its ruling constellation, which
ray then basically comes from outside or beyond the planet itself.
Emission is based upon a realized knowledge of the self and a developed
self-consciousness; transmission is based upon an understanding
of who we are in the context and service of a greater whole. The
latter is very little realised, relatively speaking.
14) As
we trace the seven rays into astrology we want to keep in mind that:
the Seven Rays wrestle with matter in order to subjugate it to divine
purpose. (11) The will of the seven deities, is
making its impression upon substance in order to produce a specific
intent through the method of the evolutionary process. (12)
15) The
ray lords subdue the lunar lords and they are the means through
which the greater is bringing the lesser zodiac into alignment.
With this in mind we may now become more particular with respect
to the individual and our own horoscopes.
16) Technically
speaking, the Ray energy will work out in the field or area of the
house/arm that is indicated by the alignment of a sign with a house/arm.
The sign will convey a particular ray energy and the house/arm that
is brought into alignment with that sign and ray, will receive that
energy and be under the influence of that ray energy. You can imagine
that area of the horoscope to be filled or imbued with the color
of the particular ray. So for example; if Aries is on the MC, the
first ray will influence the tenth house. The ray saturates the
atmosphere of a house/arm, but only to the extent possible due to
limitations in the form nature and resistance in the mechanism of
response.
17) To
give an example, here is the archetypal pattern for an individual
with Gemini rising, inclusive of the rays of most general influence:
Arm ........ Sign ...... Ray of Sign ... Comment
and Achievement
1st arm ... Gemini ..... Ray 2 ......... head
of the cosmic christ and union of heart and mind.
2nd arm ... Cancer ..... Ray 3 ......... intelligent
handling of resources, economy and understanding of cycles.
3rd arm ... Leo .......... Ray 5 ......... exactitude
in production of concrete forms and words.
4th arm ... Virgo ........ Ray 2 ......... the
lighted house of ashramic union and the hall of wisdom.
5th arm ... Libra ........ Ray 3 ......... creative
intelligent play and developing of ideas.
6th arm ... Scorpio ...... Ray 4 ......... transformation,
intuitive understanding and sattvic liberation.
7th arm ... Sagittarius .. Ray 6 ........ loyalty
in relations and desire for soul union.
8th arm ... Capricorn ... Ray 3, 7........periodical
rebirth and rhythmic expression of accepted discipleship.
9th arm ... Aquarius .... Ray 5 .......... construction
of antahkarana and knowledge of cosmic law.
10th arm ... Pisces ..... Ray 2, 6 ....... Christ
was transfigured before all men on the mountain top.
11th arm ... Aries ....... Ray 1 .......... group
initiation and leadership and realisation of the one in the many.
12th arm ... Taurus .... Ray 4 .......... divine
discontent, revealing eye, real and the unreal, sacrifice.
18) The
understanding of these subjective matters, with their individual
meaning and significance, have to come through study and must be
deepened through meditative contemplation, by each individual. Then,
they have to be worked out by the higher Self as an expression of
spiritual triumph and applied by the Soul in service of the greater
whole.
19) The
next point of interest here is that the individual ray formula can
be brought into relation with these ray triangles. Such that a second
ray soul will find an easy approach into the horoscope through the
arms/houses governed by Gemini, Virgo and Pisces, and a 1st ray
soul approaches through Aries, Leo and Capricorn etc.
20) The
ray triangles reveal the approach:
Ray 1 ... Aries ......... Leo .......... Capricorn
Ray 2 ... Gemini ....... Virgo ......... Pisces
Ray 3 ... Cancer ....... Libra ........ Capricorn
Ray 4 ... Taurus ....... Scorpio ...... Sagittarius
Ray 5 ... Leo ........... Sagittarius ... Aquarius
Ray 6 ... Virgo ......... Sagittarius ... Pisces
Ray 7 ... Aries .......... Cancer ........ Capricorn
21) This
same principle is then extended so that it will apply to all the
vehicles, such that a third ray personality will approach the horoscope
through the arms/houses governed by Cancer, Libra and Capricorn,
and a fifth ray mind will approach through Leo, Sagittarius and
Aquarius, etc.
22) The
arms/houses governed by any rays that are not part of the rayological
makeup and formula, will generally be areas of life where the individual
will have no real presence, ability, expertise or interest. Those
will be the areas where he will have difficulties exerting real
control, for any length of time. These are areas where the grip
of the soul is lacking (through its vehicles). Correspondingly,
if a ray is influencing several vehicles, the areas in the horoscope
governed by that ray may be focal or strongly emphasized.
23) There
is also a time-equation to this that is related to the seven or
ten-year cycles of the vehicles. The five crises of the individual
soul--reflecting the five racial crises in which the soul appropriates
its vehicles during each incarnation should be studied with care:
- the physical vehicle between four to seven
years;
- the astral vehicle during adolescence; the
mind between 21-25 years;
- soul contact and an integrated and unified
threefold personality between 35-42 years;
- the relationship of the soul to its vehicles
between 56-63 years of age.
Depending upon the ray of the vehicle, so will
the different ray triangles and corresponding areas of the horoscope,
be swept into activity. This will necessarily include the working
out of the associated planetary configurations as well. For example,
a fifth ray mind will generally sweep into definite and determining
activity the arms/houses/planets associated with the Leo, Sagittarius
and Aquarius triangle around the ages 21-25 years.
24) Another
instance of cycles to follow would be the numerical cycles of the
soul ray. Such that for the second ray soul the five and the fifty
year periods will be carefully observed, and for the third ray soul
we would have the 9 year periods etc.
